On the Edge #19
Merry Christmas, this time from Berlin.
Now’s the holidays and it’s extremely quiet but it seems to have a New York-y lifestyle, with cleaner trains and fewer cockroaches👀
We started a positive feedback program in Eveince around nine months ago. Our team performed well in providing feedback but it wasn’t without challenges. the team was not fully aligned with why should we give feedback. We thought maybe it’s the nature of their work to focus on a hard problems, that pushes them into isolation, or maybe we don’t learn to give positive feedback when we grow up, at school, etc. I found a paper -thanks again to Ethan Mollick- that shows not giving positive feedback is more universal than we think.
I enjoyed reading the design of Inkbase. It’s an open project similar to what Figma is doing behind the scene. Lately, I’ve been using Figma more and if you follow the tech news you most probably heard that Adobe has acquired them for $20B. This happened while Adobe already provides products competing with Figma, e.g. XD. What are the factors behind the success of Figma? It’s not one particular feature, or the number of their users necessarily. Adobe also has a big enough user base. One killer feature is easy and fast form manipulation with a custom-enough and concise number of settings.
I recommend this book about back pain. I don’t have back pain myself but this is one of the tricky topics that I’m interested in. It also reminded me of another fiction, the Mind-Body Problem. It’s not one of those hocus pocus books that deny scientific and medical approaches. It’s a different way to look at body pain.

The original song is amazing, but this performance always gives me the chills. You know you’re gifted when you bring joy and tears to Led Zeppelin itself. Ann Wilson is one of those gifted people.

The first trailer of Nolan’s Oppenheimer is out. Spielberg’s Fabelmans, Holy Spider, Banshees of Inisherin, and Tim Burton’s Wednesday (a series). I also read more reviews at the end of the year. I’m sharing some of the best from the critic’s point of view. link
